Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 - Unique Arc Slider

The recently unveiled Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 features a unique Arc Slider design that allows the screen to slide out and reveal a full QWERTY keyboard. The following image shows how the Arc Slider design is implemented:

The XPERIA X1 also features a metal body finish, 3-inch wide VGA display, touch screen with handwriting recognition and the Windows Mobile operating system for SmartPhone functionality. The XPERIA interface consists of customisable panels that can be touched to access your web, multimedia or other applications.

Multiple navigation sources are provided for convenient and intuitive interaction with the phone. The touch screen, 4-way key, QWERTY keyboard and optical joystick can all be used for navigation. The optical joystick works by brushing your finger over the navigation key to move the pointer on the screen.

HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) and WiFi are support allow for fast and convenient Internet access. Web browsing and RSS functionality is included.

A 3.2 megapixel camera is included with 3x digital zoom, auto focus and video recording.

The Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 is expected to become available in selected markets from the second half of 2008.

BlackBerry Pearl 8120


Research In Motion have this month launched the BlackBerry Pearl 8120 SmartPhone in Indonesia. This model combines SmartPhone power with stylish looks and multimedia features.

Multimedia features of the BlackBerry Pearl 8120 include a 2 megapixel camera with video capture, expandable memory via microSD card, media player and a 3.5mm jack for headsets. The 2 megapixel camera features 5x digital zoom, automatic flash and video capture in resolutions of 240x180 or 176x144.

SmartPhone functionality includes an email client, task list, calendar, memo pad, address book and web browser. A new "Page View" option is included for the BlackBerry browser that allows the user to quickly zoom in and out of selected areas of a web page.

The BlackBerry Pearl 8120 features RIM's trackball navigation system for fast and intuitive navigation. The trackball can also be used with the camera for adjusting the 5x zoom.

WiFi (802.11 g/b) is supported and allows fast and covenient internet access in hotspots. WiFi security protocols such as WEP (Wireless Equivalency Protocol), WPA (WiFi Protected Access) and WPA2 are included.

SureType keyboard technology is supported with a QWERTY layout for fast text entry.

Nokia N82 Black SmartPhone released

The Nokia N82 SmartPhone has today been unveiled in a stylish new jet black. This is perhaps a response from Nokia to mixed opinions about the appearance of the older shiny silver model.

Multimedia capabilities, high-speed internet and integrated GPS navigation are standout features of the Nokia N82. The camera is top notch as well, providing 5 Megapixels, Xenon flash, Car Zeiss optics, auto focus, fast between shot reloading and DVD like quality video capture.

The integrated GPS and high resolution camera can work together to tag photos with capture location metadata. The capture location of each image can then be viewed at a later date from the phone or on a computer.

The Nokia Sports Tracker application is also supported by the N82. This GPS based activity tracker application automatically stores data such as speed, distance and time.

MicroSD cards of up to 8GB are supported. This storage space is quoted by Nokia of being able to hold either 3,600 high resolution photos, 5 hours of video capture, up to 6,000 songs or every available region for Nokia Maps.

The Nokia N82 Black model is expected to start shipping in the next few weeks for an estimated price of 400 euros.

Sony Ericsson G900 - 5 Megapixel Camera and Touch Screen

The Sony Ericsson G900 features a touch screen interface and camera with a high capture resolution of 5 megapixels. This is one of two touch screen organiser phones that have recently been announced by Sony Ericsson, the other being the 3.2 megapixel G700 model.

The G900 model has all of the functionality of the G700 with additional features including the higher camera resolution of 5 megapixels, touch enabled camera functions, touch photo album editor and WiFi support. Other camera upgrades include Auto Focus and a picture blogging feature.

All touch screen functions of the G700 model such as "one touch" control, hand writing recognition and finger navigation are supported. The Sony Ericsson G900 also supports "Quick Notes", a feature that allows you to quickly write notes on the screen with the stylus and then save or send them to your contacts. A single press on the Notes icon is all that is required to activate the Quick Notes feature.

3G broadband internet access is provided and allows the G900 to be used for streaming videos, music and news channels. An RSS feature is also included to allow you to subscribe to your favorite feeds and receive notifications when a new feed has been published. WiFi allows fast internet connections in internet hotspots.

The Sony Ericsson G900 is expected to be released in selected markets from the second quarter of 2008.

Sony Ericsson G700 - 3.2 Megapixel Camera and Touch Screen

The Sony Ericsson G700 is a 3G touch screen organiser phone that features a 3.2 megapixel camera. This is one of two touch screen organiser phones that have recently been announced by Sony Ericsson, the other being the 5 megapixel G900 model.

The large 2.4 inch touch display features "one touch" control for a range of organiser functions that include contacts, calendars, pictures, notes and shortcuts to your favorite websites. The touch screen on the G700 also features hand writing recognition and allows you to enter hand written text with the supplied stylus. Finger input is also supported to allow you to navigate your phone by simply touching the screen.

The camera supplies a capture resolution of 3.2 megapixels and features 3x Digital Zoom and an Image Stabiliser. Other features of the camera include Photo fix for adjusting light balance and contrast after the photo has been taken, Photo light for improving picture quality in poor lighting conditions and Red eye reduction. Camera features for video mode include Video light and Video stabiliser.

The G700 is also optimised for the web and features 3G broadband internet access speeds of up to 384 kbps. An RSS feeds feature lets you subscribe to feeds and notifies you when new feeds are available from the main display. The fast internet access also lets you use the phone as a media player for streaming music videos, movie trailers, news and sports.

The Sony Ericsson G700 is expected to be released in selected markets from the second quarter of 2008.

Motorola W161 and W181

The new Motorola W161 and W181 have been recently announced as new additions to Motorola's W series. These phones are marketed as affordable handsets for everyday communication.

Motorola W161
The Motorola W161 (above left) is a very simple handset that offers all of the basic functions that are required from a mobile phone. It features an intuitive user interface with a large display and keypad, simple messaging and CrystalTalk technology. CrystalTalk separates voice from background and wind noise to produce loud and clear audio.

A nice feature of this phone is an integrated FM radio with stereo support and an enhanced FM radio user interface.

Samsung Soul - Stylish 5 Megapixel Slider Phone


The Samsung Soul 5 Megapixel kick slider phone has been announced as Samsungs flagship product for 2008. Soul, an abbreviation of "The Spirit of Ultra", was named to honor the completion of the Ultra Edition series of handsets.

This stylish, slim and lightweight handset has been designed to offer both features and looks for style conscious users.

Offering 5 megapixels, the camera is also equipped with a range of professional photographic functions that include Auto Focus, Wide Dynamic Range (WDR), Face Detection, Image Stabiliser and Image Editor. The Soul also offers a large 2.2" 16M QVGA TFT LCD, ideal for viewing and editing photos.

Fast High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSPDA) internet access at 7.2 Mbps is also offered by the Samsung Soul, idea for sharing images and video taken by the phone. 7.2 Mbps is faster than what is offered by standard 3G networks.

Another standout feature of the Soul is an adaptive touch pad that changes to suit the active application. This feature is marketed as Magic Touch by DaCP. For example, if the phone is in music mode, music specific icons will illuminate on the navigation indicators. And when in camera mode, camera specific icons such as zoom and brightness will illuminate.

The Soul also features a thematic UI that allows users to change the User Interface to match their personal preference. An on handset UCS setup feature is also provided to let users create their own skins for the phone. Customisable display skins with options such as colours, fonts and background images are available.

The Samsung Soul will be available in European markets from April 2008.

Nokia 6124 - Compact 3G multimedia phone exclusive to Vodafone


The Nokia 6124 classic is a compact multimedia phone that has this month been announced exclusively for the Vodafone market.

Vodafone customer's world-wide will benefit from high speed access to Vodafone's internet and entertainment services. 3G broadband download speeds at up to 10 times faster what is currently available from 3G will be supported by the Nokia 6124. Customers who frequently use their mobile for internet browsing and video streaming should certainly benefit from this handset.

Other standout features include a large 2.0"display, 2 megapixel camera an external memory slot that will allow the user to expand the phones memory up to 8GB.
